Rattled

A little over two years ago, newly postpartum, recovering from a C-section and struggling to breastfeed, a lactation consultant came over to my house in a muumuu. After listening to my challenges, she said, "It sounds like sleep and mental health are really important to you."

This comment, condescending as can be (and ultimately representative of a larger trend of dismissing women's health concerns) became the basis of my one-act play "Rattled" in which a group of postpartum women fight over a magical rattle that is promised to solve all ailments.

Writing my first play in a month pushed me creatively and I am so grateful for every moment of it. Thank you to Public Assembly for the opportunity.
